ACL tear and surgery

I had a sports related incident and injured my knee in May 2011 (6 months ago) and for a definate diagnosis I got an MRI - it showed a full ACL tear, mild medial mensicus tear. Im thinking of doing the reconstruction surgery around the end of December. Will a second MRI be indicated given the 6 month lapsed time. Does the surgeon need to see the most current imaging?
