I did a quick search on this and couldn't find anything specific in the anesthesiology forum.

I was a n00b and let my ACLS and BLS certs both expire. They were staggered by a year anyway, and I want it so I can just do the combo renewal course every 2 years and be done with it. What's the process for residency programs? Do you have to come in w/ the recert, or do they assume you need to renew upon arrival? Is it completely program dependent?

I'm in a position now where I have to do the full 2 day ACLS + the 1 day BLS separately as a new provider (sucks.). I was hoping to just be able to do all of those at my ultimate residency hospital a week or 2 before residency starts. Is that reasonable (and is it usually inexpensive for residents)?

My concern is if you have to prove current certs to sign your contract.

You don't need these certifications to sign your residency contract but will need them prior to starting residency. Most (if not all) programs will arrange this (and should pay for it too). Don't sweat it, just sit back and relax until match day.

During my orientation for internship they provided us w/ACLS, BLS, and PALS. As a Ca-2 when my certs expired our program paid for us to a a recert course. Check with your program(s) before buying anything they may already have a plan

So we all need PALS in addition to ACLS+BLS? How about ATLS?

I have to recert soon for ACLS for residency (now I'll really have to know what I'm doing. I was thinking about doing an online one so I don't have to take days off. I'm gonna try this Simcode ACLS one I found. (http://www.simcodeacls.com) Has anybody tried it? One person I know used it to practice for the AHA in person course and recommended it, but they didn't use it to recertify.

my residency program specifically mentioned they wont accept any online courses.. You might want to check with your program before you register

Can anyone give an overview of what the ATLS test at the end focused on? Do we really need to read the entire ATLS book and are there any specific areas we need to focus on? Thanks!!!!

ATLS or ACLS? For both, the post-test is similar to the pre-test. You do not have to read the entire book (or, really, any of it) to pass either test if you paid attention at all during class and simulations.

hey thanks for the reply, i was referring to the ATLS. I was only asking because some were saying that the ATLS is no joke and was actually rather difficult for them.
