ACOEP Conference Fall vs. Spring

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would have to say the fall can be a bit more beneficial for students, the annual residency expo is held then and the AOA is at the same time so you can check that out too.

I hear they are lining up an ultrasound clinic for students this fall.

Thanks jaymodo!

I felt bad because our school's ACOEP group goes in the spring, but I was planning to go in the fall because I was going to visit my sister who lives in San Diego. I also felt bad because that's not when the school group was going.

If you can, go both times. I went this past Spring (good experience), and as my school's national liaison, I plan on going in the Fall, too. See you in San Diego (if you like Mexican food, some of us are planning on going to El Indio's at some point--if they're still open, after all these years).

Sounds awesome! I am looking forward to meeting some of the sdners that will be there. I will have to see if I have the funds for both trips. (Can stay with my sister in the fall, but she's moving, so that won't be the case in the spring)

Which school do you attend?

I don't know if it'll be the case for the Fall Conference, but at the Spring one, ACOEP gave $250 to each school group to help defray the costs of attendance. If you're the only one from your school going, then you get all of that money (as was the case for me this Spring). It likely won't fully cover your airfare or hotel, but it'll at least help a bit.

hmmm...I wish money wasn't such a factor!!!

Yeah, they do the same $250 reimbursement for the fall too!

How do you go about getting this money? Do your school officers know this and help you out?

The treasurer will likely be there, and will give you the form to fill out, along with instructions. I filled it out when I got home, attached a copy of one of my receipts (just need to show that you spent at least $250), and mailed it in. A few weeks later, reimbursement check arrived in the mail. Individual student groups also handle things differently. Our advisor paid out of pocket for some of our officers to go to the conference last Fall, and I think one of the students in Az last month said that their school chapter footed the entire bill for them (not entirely sure, though). Bottom line, $250 is reimbursed to each student chapter sending a rep, and your school's chapter may be able to provide extra assistance.

Good to know. Thanks.
