EK Bio Lecture 8, question #169

Which of the following is not true concerning the uptake of Ca2+ ions from the cytosol during muscle contraction

D. It is rapid and efficient

Okay so the answer was B, meaning D is true. Active transport is considered efficient transport? I'd figure that passive transport/facilitated diffusion would be efficient because it doesn't require ATP. I guess not?

I think that it means efficient in the sense that most of the calcium is pumped back. If some calcium remained, there would be muscle problems.

Oh so efficient as in maintaining the concentration of calcium, that would make sense. When I read it I was thinking of energy efficiency. The engineer in me wasn't happy with that.
