I've heard students being asked the question of what activities demonstrate their dexterity at interviews. What sort of activities are u all involved with that show this?

I heard that as well.... in addition I heard that in the interview that they asked, "demonstrate to us how you are manually dexterous".. what are some things we can come up with?

- Ithink maybe spinning a pen between ur fingers? Playing piano helps for sure...I don't know, any ideas ?? Maybe take a Kinder surprise with you and assemble it in under 5 seconds?

Lol i can demonstrate this with perfection!!! all those boring ass 3 hour lectures gives u great practice at this pointless skill.

Build models, take some pottery/art/jewelry classes....stuff like that I assume.

I've also started writing with my left hand in those boring classes.....

I've always had a problem with #2, it ends up all messy and i then have to take a shower 😱 does this mean i should rethink dentistry or just practice more? 😀

lol you guys are so funny.

pick your nose and spin a pen at the same time = instant acceptance (or at least I wish)

How about a concert pianist? Or at least piano as a hobby? Seriously!

I play piano as well. I use to play clarinet, and guitar is on the list too. Besides music i think art is really important. Drawing, painting, sculpting. Oh how i love art 😀

Just be ready to walk the walk and talk the talk when asked what piece of music you like.

I had an interesting conversation with a director of admission and he asked a student a really technical quesiton about music and playing the piano and that student gave him a lame ass answer, turned out this kid had never played the piano in his life. Instant rejection........

Winning the world championship of pinkywrestling

-I have been playing the guitar for over 10 years.

-I began painting and sculpting in elementary school and have won several awards for sculpture in Orlando and Jacksonville student art festivals.

-I also enjoy woodworking such as cabinetry.

From my application.

Just shred a face-melting solo on electric guitar. Then get right in the interviewer's face and say "Let's see you do that!"

I took Ceramics my junior year.

I agree...I mean what interview would be complete without a guitar solo?

anything with your hands, that shows fine motor control is dexterity. are you trying to get the "best" answer here to put it in your app? just be honest and put down what you can do best.

oh my god, funny story about my interview at UPenn...

I'm a pianist, and wrote that on my app in a few places. Anyway, I had one of the last interviews of the day at Penn and with a guy that only did one other, I believe? (So I couldn't get the scoop on him 😉) Anyway, he picked me up in the room and the first words out of his mouth were,

"Hello! I'm Dr. _______. I have a piano in my office, and your entire interview will be solely based on your audition."

*pause, where I thankfully saw a twinkle in his eye*

"Of course! And which genre would you prefer? I didn't bring much with me."

"Well, don't you have all your pieces by memory?"

etc. etc. and we started the interview.

Also, during our chatting I realized he was super cool (but all with a straight face) and we had a few friendly debates and even some teasing! It was the most surreal but fun interview I had! 😀
