Activities to do during summer of application cycle?

Anyone have any good ideas of activities to do during the summer of the application cycle? I was thinking of an abroad service trip, which might be difficult if I am applying and sending secondaries, etc.

Any other good ideas except for a research job?

I would work. You'll need the money for secondaries and later for interviews, and if you're abroad your access to internet for secondaries might be limited, affecting you ability to reply in a timely manner.
