Hi everyone so just about to start my Freshmen year of College and I was wondering what are some activties that you all have participated in I read that med school apps have 20 spots for all the activties that you have done and Ive been trying to find some examples online but there is really not much. So i would love to hear from all of you about a couple of activties that you put on your apps and i would love to hear some advice from all of you that you wish you would have known going into freshmen year now that you have all this expierence

Cookie cutter things:
clinical volunteering
non-clinical volunteering
school clubs
leadership
research
shadowing

Things that look good are things that you like. If you can be passionate about it, that makes all the difference, otherwise you'll be wasting your time.

Exactly.

It's quite simple. The activities that look good are the ones that you enjoy doing and will be enthusiastic while talking about it.

Do stuff that both interests you and shows your altruism. A few things that really impress me are: going on medical missions; being involved with Habitat for Humanity; crisis counseling; working with the elderly, and the tops for me is serving in the Peace Corps. Oh, ditto military service.

The most important thing that I've gathered from talking with many faculty members is having a common thread throughout your activities. You want to show your commitment to your own mission and how that ties into you potentially becoming an excellent physician.
