hi everyone
I agree with dentmumaussi about the listening test.
I got nervous in speaking test. I think practicing on time management is really necessary. my examiner was speaking very fast and although I knew I shouldn't but I began to talk very fast like her which unfortunately resulted in a lot of grammatical mistakes!!!! 🙁
one of the role plays was like dentmumaussi's and the other one was a 7-year- old girl accompanied by her mother, had a little crowding with thumb-sucking. The girl didn't want braces and I had to tell her that these days a lot of children in her age wear them and then refer her to an orthodontist .The mother was concerned about the consultation fee of visiting an specialist. I also had to calm her ( as usual !!)🙂

A question about writing : was it an endo or a re-endo refer? 😕
because in front of RCT in the examination form was "?" sign which I think is written when we are not sure if we are right or not. And radiograph showed two canals and it wasn't talking about root treated canals. am I wrong?

DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED JUST PRAY TO GOD FOR 7WEEKS THAT THEY R SATISFIED BY UR ENGLISH HEE-HEEE-!!! 😀😀
WRITING PART -THINK NO MORE I DON'T WANT TO ANS UR DOUBTS WHICH CAN PROMPT A CHAIN OF DOUBTS. THANKS FOR GIVING SOME OET STUFF.
RELAX DUDE!! I AM SURE U DID FINE.👍🙂

Hi dentmumaussi. You ARE thinking positive!!! Have it upp!!! We all need it, At least until we'll get the results. I'm waiting now for both OET and Prelims which could be due next week both. I am still sleeping good at night because nothing can be done now to improve my results even if you really want to. The best think to do is RELAX and take it easy. That's last week before I'll study hard again...
Yes like you I think that the way we're taken to become australian dentist is extremely tough and if we're already here we need to continue what we've started, go to the end.
What price??? It's different for all. But definitely high.
Cheers,

I know very well that the exam is not testing your medical knowledge so i guess it doesnt matter if it was retreatment or not ( for me i answered as if it was a retreatment case ) but as i said i think it doesn't matter, what they are looking for is your grammer, letter format, ability to write full sentences out from note points and other english stuff.....
May we all succeed🙂
Cheers....

Hi, Have ur fingers crossed and I am sure u will succeed in both Oet and ADC1.👍 I am confused whether to stay jobless for preparation of ADC or work as something while try my luck with whatever preparation. What r u and others do when u have to wait for the permit to work as dentist when u r residing in Australia? What is the best thing to do?😕
I guess tonight I have to sleep with this thought lingering!!!😴😴

How good do you have to be in English in order to pass the OET? :meanie:

I mean, it's not my mother tongue, and I definitely don't use it on a daily basis. 🙄

I think I'm cool with writing 😎, but speaking just freaks me out ... 😱

Hi there 🙂
I have question, would u please tell me why social deprivation is known as risk factor for ORAL CANCER, however I am sure about tobacco and alcohol consumption which are known as factors for oral cancer. ,
Do you have any idea about social deprivation? 😕

could you please tell me national board questions are the same with
FSBGD WRITTEN BOARD QUESTION STUDY GUIDE?
thank you vey much

Godday my friends dentists.

Sorry to disappoint some of you, but it is NOT possible to sit Prelims without valid OET pass.
I sat my Prelims in Sept only because I've got an exemption though my OET test was done in 2004 and as you all know that OET is only valid 2 years. I did Prelims and one week after I sat OET again. But that's the rules ADC have. You can't do much about it.
If I failed Prelims I may do it again in March if I passed OET.
If I failed both I need to begin from the beginning.😡

Cheers,

Hi, I think this decision is totally up to you. I mean if you can find a job as a dental assistant during the time is great.
It's depends mostly on your marital status and if you have got kids. Good if you can afford putting your kids into daycare and the same time having economical benefits from your work. As far as I understand if you're working full time as DA and having one child in daycare you don't have so much money left:meanie: and no daily contact to your child.
It's the matter of your preference, to be with kid(s) at home is a hard job too, so it's a balancing as anything else.
I don't feel secure either without knowing when (or if:scared:) I can go back to my usual job as a dentist.

Cheers,
Odonta:luck:

hi Dr Helos,
iam sorry i have no idea about FSBGD study guide, but natioanl board questions are previous exam questions ..i have them from 1997 to 2004,over couple of hundred questions...let me know in case you all need it.i just have a CD.

hi
as i know for AMC prelim examination oet is not prerequisite, but i am not sure about ADC,but we can ask them to do the same as AMC😎.
please look at this:
''IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY FOR AMC EXAMINATION
From the 1st July 2007, the English Language Proficiency requirement will no longer be a prerequisite for AMC candidates in order to commence the AMC examination process. Any candidate who undertakes an MCQ examination AFTER the 1st July 2007 is not required to fulfil the English Language Proficiency requirements for eligibility to sit the examination.

However, English Language Proficiency is a formal requirement for registration in Australia. The AMC advises that in order for International Medical Graduates (IMG's) to obtain registration through one of the State/Territory Medical Boards, the English Language Proficiency requirements still remain valid. IMGS's who are intending to apply for registration in Australia should view the National Policy on English Language Proficiency requirements for International Medical Graduates. This policy is available on the AMC website and the websites of the State/Territory Medical Boards.

You must also be aware that the State/Territory Medical Boards enforce the 2 year time limit which is applicable to both the Occupational English Test (OET) and the IELTS. For more information on the English Language Proficiency requirements for registration, you must contact the relevant State/Territory Medical Board.''

Hi there 🙂
I have question, would u please tell me why social deprivation is known as risk factor for ORAL CANCER, however I am sure about tobacco and alcohol consumption which are known as factors for oral cancer. ,
Do you have any idea about social deprivation? 😕

Oral cancer incidence is strongly related to social and economic deprivation, with the highest rates occurring in the most disadvantaged sections of the population. The association is particularly strong for men. incidence rates for cancer of the head and neck were twice as high for those in the most disadvantaged category compared with the least disadvantaged.2 This reflects the higher tobacco consumption in the more disadvantaged groups.
• Poverty can contribute to social exclusion and isolation, which in turn are associated with increased rates of premature death and poorer chances of survival.
Poverty and social exclusion increase the risk of illness, addiction, disability and social isolation, and the greater the length of time that people live in disadvantaged circumstances, the more likely they are to suffer from a range of health problems.

I still have my doubts about exact sequelae of social deprivation to oral cancer............let me know more!!!😕

Hi to all!
I'm reading this long post, but I didn't find yet what this password is used for?
Can you help me?🙂

What can I find in this link? http://www.imagechef.com/

Is there any Italian dentist?🙂

I'd like some practical advice because I'm a little bit confused and demoralized for the difficulty of the whole process!
I should sit OET the february 2nd, the result are expected between 10 March and 21 March.
Is correct that I can't sit the preliminary exams in March, because is written "you must pass OET before you proceed to the Preliminary Examination"?
So I should sit this in Septemper.
How much time do you need to have the result of Prelim exams? Because Clin exams is AT LEAST twice each year, in July and November. Can I sit this in november 2008? or have I to wait till July 2009🙁
What "at least" mean?Do you know if there is more than twice each year?

What can I do in all this time?
Because I found already a job as Orthontist in Australia but I have to wait this long time! Do you think can I come in Australia and work in the field of Orthodontics before getting the registration(without doing the Orthondontist because I can't do it!)? For ex as a Dental assistant or anything else?

Thank u

Well, I am not sure anymore whether that account with password exists. I have questioned regarding this many times and unfortunately never recieved the pw but I was sent the ques thru email. Only first and older members can give us an accurate info regarding this..........and I guess they r on a holiday:hardy:.

Max11, As far as what I have gathered....You have to wait for Oet results to proceed to the next level. Yes, they take a long time to give us the truth which definitely hinders our next plan of action. R u a specialist in Ortho or just Gen Dentist? Lucky4 u 2 hav an offer already unfortunately it is illegal to work without a liecense to practice as a dentist in Australia and that's y many of us r following the most difficult path like studying from the scratch and bare with justifications that our previous qualification and experience r not worth for Australian standards. U should relax and go step by step with ADC and just be thorough with ur knowledge. u will make it in no time.👍

Do lemme know any alternatives if available!!!:idea:

.Hi, I like your optimist vision!
I'm a specialist in Orthodontics in Italy, It's 3 years of university.
I know I can't work there now, ..and it should be good to find a job linked to Orthodontics... I found in ..Australia.. a job and I have some relative there, I'd like to leave my little job in ..Italy.. and go in Oz, but because I can't practice Orthodontics there, I will finish to "lose" or "forget" my skills!

For now I don't know alternatives, just the bridging program.

Thanks, Max
.

ARE there any overseas dentists working as something else other than a dentist in Australia and still preparing for ADC?😳 Need some enlightenment on this topic. I am a mother of three tired of waiting periods now and before& giving exams. I desperately want to work not for money but scared of losing time. I was in UAE. I had to wait 3yrs as 6 yrs of exper required to get a liecense and now again 2yrs.:scared:
Well, I hope someone will tell me what r options I should consider and which types of jobs r worth giving a shot. I have an offer as DA fulltime-----probs....kids? no help here!! time for studies???????confused.😕😕

Thanks Odonta for sharing some of ur views with me.

You r a valuable assest to all the ADC buddies.🙂 You can just start posting anything that pops in to your mind. YOu can also just write in details about the experience and difficulty u encountered during preparation time and actually giving the prem 1. 😕 In ur opinion , how much ur previous experience as a dentist mattered giving this Prem ADC. U can tell us the ques u remember that came and u were not sure of the answers etc.

YES WE ALL DEFINITELY NEED EACHOTHER'S HELP ,GUIDANCE , MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION. AS A MATTER OF FACT WE ARE FREINDS INDEED. 😍😍[/QUOTE]

But if I get just registration as dentist in UK, is it the same thing?
I think no🙁

Hi max11!
no, its not the same thing. iam registered and working in the uk as a dentist, but did not obtained my exam in the uk.therefore i must take the ADC exams as well. the adc is not interested where you are registered. it is importent for them where you passed your dentist exam.

Anyone bought the two books?
Did anyone buy the two books?
(which one is correct?both?)

http://www.occupationalenglishtest.org/Display.aspx?tabid=2542

Are they useful?
Do they send them to Europe/italy quickly?
Hi max11
I bought both of them less than one month ago,
1-reading and listening additional practice which is really book for 60$AUS that contain 3 separate test (each test has 2 part) with answer in reading and listening and also has general information about test with answer sheet.
This book is general book which may be you know listening and reading are common test between every medical course.
2-the second book is specially for dentistry OET(but look like copy).this book contents reading (2 version),writing(3 version)listening(2version)speaking(role play cards1to 5,and guideline and role play preparation)and at the end you can find answer and some information about language of medicine, for example how to ask or what you must ask…..
this book's price was 44 $AUS and I paid for postage and handling around 20$ ,but It was amazing because just 2 days after paid money I got them however I am living in Melbourne .
if you do not any idea about the test it is better to buy them by the way I think they are really expensive but it is no way ,please notice these book contain just previous test ,they are not a learning book .I forgot to say each of book has 2 CD for listening.
If you need more help please contact me
Cheers
