question 1) If the adcom asks "why do u want to come to our more $$$ school?"

what would ppl say?

question 2) would u treat (or how do u deal with) a drunken patient?

Drunken patient: I guess it depends how drunk they are. But if the person was pretty intoxicated (i.e. slurring speech, having trouble walking)there's no way I would treat him/her. First, I think that poses a risk to you. I mean, what if the person makes a sudden random movement and you stick yourself with a needle. Not to mention the risk to the patient!! Second, I think there might be some liability/legal risk with that.

If the patient really was in a lot of pain with a tooth or something, I would tell them to go grab a drink of water and eat a bagel (if they can chew) and come back in an hour. But again, it all depends how drunk they are.

But seriously, if some hammered person came into my office I would be like: "Whaazzup dude!!!" and I would go to my office, pull out the bottle of Jack Daniels and start taking shots with him/her. 😛

I have not been accepted anywhere yet. Getting a good education is my top priority and although your institution is pricey I truely feel as though I fit in here which is most important for me.

My father always told me you cant put a price on education. Therefore, money is not a factor for me when Im choosing the school I want to attend.

Adcoms are don't want this issue to come up. Chances are, they will go out of their way to tell you about their financial aid packages, and why they make their school worth the extra cost.

I would NEVER operate on a drunken patient. Even if a patient is the slightest bit drunk, they are not in their right mind to give informed consent. Its a lawsuit that is just waiting to happen.

i would talk about the highlights of their dental program and why i would WANT to go there. the city. depending on which city/state i'm interviewing in, i might be able to say that i can live with my sister, so that saves costs, etc, etc. 😳

I would try not to reveal this information so I could take the stance I gave above 😀, since $ is a big issue for me. However if its not an issue for you be honest -- this will come across 🙂.

For #2, we'll learn in dental school that you will not be allowed to work on patients who are under the influence of any drug (including alcohol). You just have to ask the patient to come back another day sober.

For #1: Rezdawg has a good answer for that question.

Interesting.. Yeah, I thought there would be some legal rules about that.

That is a great quote dude. I won't feel so bad for going out of state now. 😀

You could always throw this out:

"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."
-Benjamin Franklin, founder of Penn😀

Good quote. Franklin was the man. I watched a show last Sunday about him on the History Channel.

FYI, Franklin named his son "Temple," so I had to do some research on Temple University to see if it was founded by his son. It wasn't, but that would have been pretty cool.

Gavin, that was a great documentary. The only problem I had with it was that it ended with Nicholas Cage pitching his dreck 'National Treasure.'

Biogirl, don't knock the History Channel. I would take anything they have instead of 'Joey' any day.
