Adcoms: What are the biggest app killers that you see?

Of course there are a good number of applicants who don’t get in every year, including many high-stat ones.
Having seen so many people and applications, what are the biggest reasons someone, who may have otherwise been a good fit for the school, gets that R?

What are some of the more unique/funny things you’ve come across reviewing applications that swayed you one way or another?

You know we just can’t get enough of getting into the mind of an adcom on this forum

Short lukewarm (nothing negative per se) reference letters can sink an otherwise good application.

I saw one that literally mentioned that the person wore appropriate clothes and showed up on time.... like that’s all they could think of to say about the applicant. Choose wisely and someone that actually knows you!!
