Add DO schools?

Hey Y'all!

So I applied to 37 schools. I heard back from 9. 4 II, 3 Rejections and 2 Holds. I only attended one interview so far and have not heard back yet. I really need to start medical school next year as I already am a reapplicant and cannot take anymore time off. Should I add some DO schools to the mix? I really really do not want to go to DO school (personal reasons) and have really been banking on getting into an MD school. That being said, if I can't get into MD after 2 cycles, maybe I will never get in. Really not sure what to do. (PS I was kind of late, complete in September, for both my MD cycles so maybe if I did reapply a third time and was early I would get better results? Who knows). I really just want an MD acceptance and I'm hoping one of my 4 II turns into one or that I get more II's. For reference, LM ~ 70ish

You should probably provide some stats for people to go off of.

Plus if you’re a reapplicant then you should’ve applied/completed earlier knowing how last cycle went for you.

I will update my stats in the original post. And yeah you're exactly right, but unfortunately something really unexpected came up in late June when I was wrapping up my primary and was ready to submit. I had to travel overseas and get things sorted out and couldn't work on any secondaries till about late August/early September. Also, last cycle my school list was very very poor (very top heavy). Fixed that this time.

1. You don't want to reapply again as you don't want to take any more time off.

2. You don't want to apply to DO schools.

3. You applied late in both cycles.

I mean beggars can't be choosy, so it depends on what you want to do exactly. Clearly, applying late didn't hurt you significantly if you got 4 interview invites. So you need to decide which is more important to you: getting into a US medical school no matter what this cycle or getting into US MD school no matter what.

If getting into US MD school is more important, just wait this cycle out and see how it goes... hopefully getting an acceptance, but while also continuing to build your application to prepare for the worst case scenario of having to reapply. If getting into a US medical school is more important, consider adding a few DO schools.

That’s alright, life does happen. Though I would say this is also a pretty big part of your life so give some time and commitment into it early, so you’ll get the results you’re after. @Goro can aid you in your school lists if that’s the issue.

As stated above if you really want M.D. then ride this cycle out and hopefully you will or will not have to plan for next cycle. If you want to become a doctor then go ahead and add some D.O. schools now.

Op doesn't want to be a DO, hence I have nothing to offer now.

With good prep, you should be able to get at least 1 A from your 4 IIs

Goro said in another thread that it’s too late to submit DO primaries at this point. I agree with above posts: reevaluate your priorities while you wait this cycle out. Having interviewed at both MD and DO schools, I can say that they are identical aside from the OMM lab.
