andrew, i think it would be helpful if either in the poll or as a separate thread, we could somehow present each applicant individually with their qualifications, for example:

-board scores
-reputation of medical school where attended (top 10, top 25, etc)
-research (none, some ophtho with no pubs, ophtho pubs)
-honors in 3rd year (especially surge and med)
-# and where you did away rotations
-# apps
-where invited for interviews
-where matched
-anything that you felt helped your application (ie: a phone call from your advisor to another program, big-wig letter of recs, MD/PhD, other degree, etc)

i know this may reveal the identity of some who have already posted specific info, so it may be best to just allow anyone who feels comfortable to post such info after the match. either way i think it would help give the up-and-comings a better idea of where they stand based on someone else with similar qualitifications.

To keep this info anonymous, the people interested in the posting of this info should PM me the information. I'll then post the information under the titles of Applicant #1, #2... and so on. We'll have one long thread of anonymous applicant stats. Does this sound good?

that sounds great if you're up for it. that's a lot of work for you. what does everyone else think?

I have no objections. If we do this, I believe it would be one of the most helpful resources imaginable for those seeking to pursue ophtho. Granted, the sample would likely be somewhat biased (i.e., ophtho folks who look at BBs), but it would be better than anything I ran across when researching the matter. Good idea, jonnyboy!

I think that in addition to what Johnnyboy suggested, we need to add class rank (either specific #, or top third, etc.), and AOA status.

If we did this in any real scientific manner, the results would probably be publishable. But then again who really cares about that now, since we are all going to be matched (hopefully)! Good luck.

Now that's too much work! It'll be forever published on this board.
