Hello! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I had a couple quick questions for anyone who has done Addictions psych fellowship or is applying:

1. I’ve generally heard that the fellowship is not very competitive but I’m also trying to gauge my chances when I don’t have any addictions-related research (planning to amend this next year as PGY-4) or publications (I do have one publication not addiction related).

2. I see that a lot of these places like early admissions. I thought that May was the earliest time for sending in apps but I guess it’s April.

3. If you have a free four hours and a Netflix account, go watch Russian Doll (not a question, but thought I’d offer something in exchange from benefitting from y’all’s knowledge)

You don't need research for publications to get into any psychiatry fellowship, just the recommendation of your program director and be a resident in good standing. Some uber academic places might not take you, but some decent program will. I mean, this is an area that's even less competitive than child psych, which isn't very competitive in general. It's always a good idea to apply as soon as they are taking applications in general, for everything.

Does Russian Doll have anything to do with substance abuse treatment?

Good to know; thanks!

Russian Doll does not have much, if anything, to do with substance abuse treatment, sadly. Does have a lot to do with trauma, though. I don’t know too much media that actually deals with substance use treatment, now that I think about it.

Any experience or advice doing addiction medicine fellowship through primary care?

1) Good answer.
2) There are a lot of substances used in Russian Doll, I can say that.
