Hello! does anyone know where I can find a graduate course, online, in addictions counseling? It needs to be for credits.

Clarion University of Pa offers a MS in rehab science with two different tracks..one is sub. abuse and the other is special ed. They offer it in person, online or a combination. I don't know if this was what you were looking for, but I thought I would throw it out there just in case.

Most addiction counseling isn't done by a masters or higher-level individual. You generally only need a certificate. I've even met certified substance abuse counselors with nothing more than an HS diploma. Is there a specific reason you want such a course? What exactly are you looking for?

While it is true that most are able to be cert. at the BA/BS level...I think it would behoove the field if more people continued their formal education. I know many agencies that are seeking out master level only rather then bachelor.

Here in ND you have to have a BA/BS in addiction studies or closely related field, with 32 hours of coursework with certain curriculum, and then you have to complete a 9 month internship (1400 hours). I'm surprised by the small amount of training necessary in other states.
