Adding a Second B.S.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I already have enough BS in my life.

i was supposed to double major in biology and chemistry. I was just short of 4 classes for my chemistry degree. It's do-able in 4 years but I had to take summer school every year after my freshman year.

In a lot of schools biology and pre-med prereqs dovetail nicely and it's not too difficult to pick up a dual major. My school has three different chemistry paths and one of them only requires a few courses above and beyond pre-reqs (including biochem.) So it might not be hard to accomplish. But you shouldn't do it if you aren't interested in the actual field, because it's not going to make your app stand out. Especially not biology.

Are you referring to double majoring (1 degree w/2 majors) or getting a dual degree (2 separate degrees)?

I did it and it took me an extra semester. If you get an early enough start, I think it definitely can be done in 4 years. I did it just because I really enjoyed the courses offered in both programs, and found that they complemented each other nicely. I found that I kept seeking out and taking courses for fun in one of the majors, until I realized I was only a couple extra classes away from finishing the program, so I just went for it.

oh yeah don't add a second degree in science if your only intention is to impress the adcoms...that would be really stupid. If you wanted to add a second degree for that purpose, then I would aim for something in a completely different direction like English Literature or Economics. At least that would separate you more from the herd.
