I recently wrote a letter of intent at a school I'm wailisted at. (my top choice). I was informed by the secretary to address it to a particular individual and was given her name (Dr. So and So) and so I promptly did. Apparently, it was the assistant dean of admissions. Do you think addressing her by Dr. So and So instead of Dean So and So would have offended her and thus hurt my chances?

You're not getting in unless you started the letter with this: "What's up, bro?"

Please tell me you did that.

Don't be a shocked chicken!

You're fine.

Seriously though you should use Herr/Frau Doktor Doktor Professor Direktor Kommisar. If they have more than two doctorates, adjust the number of "Doktor"s accordingly.

 'Fraid not. I think the correct term is "Your Magnificence."
