Hola everyone!

I've been lurking for a while...but this is my first post. Found out lots of great stuff from everyone here, so thanks!!

I was thinking about ordering the 2010 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools because I've been thinking about where to apply for a while...but now that the date is coming up so soon I'm freaking out about whether it's worth my applying to certain places...

How long did it take for you to get yours? Is it worth me getting now or is it way too late for me to get it in time?

Thanks for the help!!

I bought it! It helped me narrow down the schools I was applying to. ASDA also has a similar book.

I think mine came in a few days? I'd say it did help, especially with schools I was previously unfamiliar with. The one thing I still had to call a lot of schools about was their letter of rec requirements. A lot of people say it's a "must have" but you really can get a lot of the same information off of predents.com and each individual school's websites.

I bought it a while back but it me 2 weeks. it shipped out of DC.

I had to follow up on it though as they never emailed me a tracking number or anything. They were quick to charge me though.

there answer was like oops sorry let us send your order out.

Maybe I won't get it then...thanks for the replies! I'll just do heavy duty web surfing on their sites.🙂

I never purchased the 2010 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools, I primarily based my school choices of of Barron's and Predents.com.

Is the 2010 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools a better resource?

its really cheap and the websites do not have as much as info as the official book.
Yes it narrows down schools.
its <50 bucks w/ express shipping.
YES ITS worth every penny if you ask me.
it took them like 2 or 3 days to mail me the book. and it was regular shipping.

Shoot! Now I'm conflicted!!

Can you compare this to Barron's 2010 Dental and Medical School Guide?

I imagine it's better, but is it really worth buying if one already has Barron's?

I bought it for 2009 and 2010. It is great and I would highly recommend it. It's not too late to use it as a guide and plus it has everything (avg DATs, GPAs, # out of state, # in state resident applications/acceptances, gender, ethnicity, # of students from certain states at each school (really helpful for determining if it's worth your time/money applying).

It has a few pages for each school, telling you tuition, # hours needed shadowing, prerequisite courses .... etc etc.

Saves you a little time from looking at the school's website because many of them don't tell you avg stats and what not.

Also, I am a California resident, so it was helpful seeing what schools are out of state (OOS) friendly based on the # of ppl they accept out of state. For example, UW is prefers in-state residents and states part of WICHE, and it really shows statistically. I don't think they accepted any CA residents according to the ADEA guide or at least none are attending.

Good luck 🙂

you guys invest a lot of money in applying to schools w/o good research you are throwing your money anyways. + i dont have barons. Why use barons when the accurate data can be found in the official guide issued by ADEA. its <50 bucks... come on now.
