Hello. I am planning to take my ADEX dental licensure exam soon. Since I have already graduated, I need to practice at home without the guidance of a dental school instructor. I am looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

How did you purchase the ADEX exam prep materials? Additionally, if anyone has a comprehensive list of the instruments and materials needed for the exam, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was in your situation recently. I graduated from dental school and have been practicing in a state which only required residency to be licensed. I am considering relocation, so I decided to take ADEX. I prepared for the ADEX mainly by looking at the Stevenson Dental Solution videos, MyDentalKey, and other youtube videos. I bought several ADEX teeth and practiced.

In terms of what is needed for the exam, it depends on where you take the exam. Some schools would allow you to use their supplies and you wouldn't need to bring anything additional. Some schools do not have certain supplies. In general, programs would supply the gutta percha, sealer, air water syringe, burs, articulating paper, putty matrix, suction, restorative material (composite, amalgam), rubber dam, curing lights, floss and gutta percha.

The variation is that some schools may or may not provide handpieces, certain burs, specific polishers

Hi! I’m planning on taking the CDCA/ADEX soon as well and have no where to practice. Last time I did any restorative was in 2019… Did you figure out how to practice at home? I’m not working at this time and the dental school nearby won’t allow to practice due to liability issues.

I just asked one of my friends that own a dental practice if I can practice in his office. It was very beneficial

Hey folks,

I'm in search of an ADEX exam tutor for a dental professional based in Marietta, GA. Ideally, we'd like to find a dental student or a recent grad who has passed the ADEX exam. We’re pretty flexible—happy to have in-person sessions if you're nearby, but virtual works too!

Here’s what we’re thinking:

  • In-Person: Prefer someone who can come to Marietta, GA.
  • Virtual: Open to connecting with anyone, no matter the location, as long as you can do virtual sessions.
Would love to hear from anyone who fits the bill or has experience helping students prep for license exams. Bonus points if you’re connected to Harvard (we’ve got an alum from 2010 who studied under Dr. Ohyama).

If this sounds like you or someone you know, drop me a line with your availability and whether you prefer in-person or virtual sessions at [email protected].

Thanks a ton!
