quick question. i heard from a classmate that nc and fl. now accept the results of the adex exam for state licensure. is this true?

Yup, my school will be taking ADEX this year - in fact, next year SERTA won't even be offered here.

From what I hear there are only about 7 states who will not accept ADEX at this point. But not all of those who accept it are offering it to their own grads. Anyone hear anything different? It would be nice to get some "official" information since they are asking us to fork over nearly $2000 to take this thing!!!

I just took the Mannikin portion of Adex on Oct 3 at Iowa...

word to the wise, the multi-layered teeth are crappy and often have bubbles in them from fabrication.

As for the endo section, the #14 pulp chamber is extremely deep and damn near impossible to perforate. One student in our class had a #8 that was without a canal and had to start with another tooth with about an hour left in the exam. Thankfully, the chief examiner let him work over the lunch break to finish his #8.

UNC is taking the manikin part on Oct 15th.

As grtuck said, we at UNC are taking parts II and III of ADEX next Saturday (10/15) administered by CITA (a new independent licensing agency for NC, SC, Mississippi, etc.). However, the NC state board will still be who determines who practices here (same with other states), reguardless of licensure exam.

And fyi, it looks as though Delaware, Indiana, and California are the only three states at this point (per the CITA candidate manual) that are not presently considering results of the ADEX exam to grant licensure. As always, contact the state licensing board directly for details...but ADEX is sure looking good for those of us who don't know where we'll be next year at this point for our residency training.
