Any current students (or alumni) at Adler have opinions on the PsyD program. I.e. getting an internship in the 5th year? Cost of attendance (it's so expensive)? Is the tuition worth it? What are outcomes of PsyD grads? What are internship placement rates at APA accredited institutions??

I did search and didn't find any postings from current students or recent alumni of Adler. I want to know their take on the school, not people that have applied and were accepted but have not matriculated yet. Thanks for the data from Adler. I knew I had found it once on their website, but couldn't find it again. Their placement rates are pretty atrocious.

Sorry, I'm new..but what do you mean by "placement"? Internship placements? Does that also apply to their M.A. internships?

I did not go to Adler, but I worked with several people while they were in the PsyD program (in Chicago). They were a varied group. Some were fantastic, and had no trouble getting matched for internship. A couple had to try more than once. From what I heard of their program, it seemed like the training was pretty good. There was a social justice aspect of the program that I thought was cool. However...it's still a PsyD program. It's going to cost you a LOT of money. To me, that decision is the one to question, not which PsyD.

I know you are seeking Alder alumni, so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt. As an objective outsider, though, I would let the figures guide my decision. It is very expensive to attend ($130K), and likely only getting more expensive. Internship match rates at APA/CPA accredited sites are low, ranging from 21% to 47% over the last 10 years. This means that at best only half of their out-going students matched at accredited internship sites. Also, the cost listed is for the typical 5 year track. However, their data shows that 30% of theirs students take 7 years or more to complete the program... So..... 👎

I've only trained one Adler student but she was very well prepared and came to internship with some excellent practicum preparation. You really do need to talk directly with students and also balance the cost factors for you personally. I expect that many Adler students may take longer going through and take non-APA placements because they are geographically restricted to the Chicago area and may attend part-time while working, prior to internship. If you can do it that way and be employed through school so your debt is minimal, it can be a viable choice. I'd try to find more about what their grads are doing now and how readily they were licensed in Illinois and beyond.
