Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I am planning to apply to Caribbean Schools-Ross, SGU, AUC this fall. My gpa is 3.84. However, I have not taken MCATs yet (not even once). I had always thought of going into Medical School. But senior year in college I changed my mind and so never took MCATs. But now I have definitely decided that I want to go to Medical School. If I apply to US Medicals schools, I would have to wait one year before I could take classes. So I'm planning to go to Caribbean Medical School.

Does anyone know how competitive it is to go to Caribbean Medical Schools. How hard is the interview?
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

That is ridiculous. You'll have the highest GPA at all of the Caribbean schools combined! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> Take the mcats and apply to US schools in 2004. I think you need MCAT scores to apply to Carib schools anyway.

Check out the international forum for some more info.

p.s. Is this a joke? Usually trolls don't enable PMs.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks•••••Prospective Doctor: if you can get into a US med school (which judging from your GPA you probably can) then don't consider the Caribbean schools until you've exhausted every option here. They have far more hoops to jump through when it comes to residency placement, clinical rotations, etc. One of the main reasons why they exist is to make $$$$ (some might make you pay tuition for five years even though you finish school in four). I know a lot of extremely qualified applicants (some with high GPA's) who are attending these schools and who complain mostly of poor living conditions. They decided to go because as international students they could not get into US schools after applying a few times. Imagine having frequent power outages while you're trying to study, or not being able to eat any meat products due to poor sanitation without getting sick. In any case, all these schools require an MCAT score as well (though some of them could care less what your final score actually is). Try your hand at US schools AND THEN consider the islanders. If you take the MCAT in August and apply right now, you may have a good chance. So what if it's a year later? Enjoy your life. The kind of medical education you receive will shadow you a lifetime. You can go to these Caribbean schools beginning winter semester as well, so if you think your MCAT scores aren't competitive enough and that you have very little chance, THEN make foreign schools your priority. If you go abroad and later try to transfer back into US schools, keep in mind that you might have to repeat a year here anyways. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I agree that you are either a troll or you have lost your mind. Study for the MCAT, take the MCAT, and apply to US schools. Suck up the extra year. it's no big deal. Do research or something if you fear being away from an academic setting. Carib schools can be OK, but they're expensive, and I think you're considered an FMG for residency. You can get into a US med school, so do that.
