Hello all,

I plan on applying to the majority of podiatry schools come August 1st and was wondering if it is too pre-mature to send out the applications prior to sitting for the MCAT? I will have completed all my pre-reqs and thus far have achieved a 3.3 sGPA, and a 3.2 cGPA. I am a non traditional student with an unrelated degree but have gone back to school in order to complete the necessary pre-reqs and am currently finishing up organic chemistry. I plan on starting to study for the MCAT in the near future and sit for the test sometime around December or January to ensure the best possible score. I have shadowed many podiatry departments in both academic and private settings, and at the moment am strictly geared towards applying to pod schools, and only pod schools. Other extra curriculars and work experience include....working as a hospice aide, and being a published author from when I conducted research at University hospital. Any and all advice as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Noone can take the mcat. The last date is early september. Th next date is the end of january. Apply. You may interview at a few places. You may even recieve a few con acceptances based on the pending mcat score.

Thanks, I'm hoping I can at least secure a few interview invites prior to the completion of the MCAT. The only thing now, is that I'm contemplating taking a prep course but I'm not quite sure if this is necessary or not. Suggestions?

Have you taken any practice MCAT tests? Maybe if you score well enough on a practice AAMC test, you can study for a month and take the test in September and submit your MCAT score in October. Either way, definitely take a practice test to help decide if you should take a prep course.

You should. I know schools like ohio,CSPM, and Barry will offer interviews w/o a mcat score. Not sure about scholl? The prep course is expensive and honestly depends on how bad your practice mcat scores are. I suggest taking the free aamc practice test 3 and see where you stand. If you are anywhere around 20 (>16), I suggest buying cheap used examkrackers books and self study. If you score <15, you may need a course. Remember, those prep courses are like 2 grand and most people find them less helpful and end up studying on their own anyways.

I am in a similar situation. I took the April mcat with only about 1 month of studying and got a terrible score. I recently took aamc 9 and got a 19 with the lowest score in Bio. I am retaking the mcat on Sept 8 and I have been trying to decide if I really need the course. Do you think it's possible I could increase my score to atleast a 21-22 within a month without a course? Bio is what's killing me so I am going to reread biology and do 1001 Q's.

I would apply asap. Scholl and OCPM will most likely give you interview invites and you may get a conditional acceptance depending on your mcat score-Ocpm requires atleast 22.
GOOD LUCK!

with a 3.3 you should get into all schools if your mcat is 18 or above. sad situation but true.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Good Afternoon,

Barry no longer offers interviews to students that have not yet taken the MCAT. Our admissions committee created that rule for the c/o 2015. There are also no conditional acceptances given until we have received official scores from AACPM. I hope this helps.

Good luck with your application and throughout the interview season!! 🙂
