Im going to school to do general surgery. If i'm living alone without a wife will I be able to adopt a family of 3 or 4 say 12 years old and above? How will I take care of them? Will I have to hire a nanny, babysitter, etc.? I really would like to adopt.

I have a good friend who is an ObGyn and in that exact situation. She adopted two kids at young ages. She has a live in nanny. A live in nanny will be the best because you never know when you will be called for surgery.
If you are a surgeon and not married you will have no problem affording a nanny.

The support of family and friends is very helpful too.

Superb idea. I would like to adopt three children, aged 13+. They must be clean, disciplined, skilled in the domestic arts -- including but not limited to: tending to the animals, cooking meals of at least 4 courses, maintaining a small garden, making beds with "hospital corners," detailing silver, and caring for my teflon pots and pans. It would also be nice if they had musical/voice talents, as I love the opera.

hi - my partner and I adopted a 9 year old during my 1st year of med school. It was the best thing I've ever done and I think it's great that you would consider adopting an older child. Very few people are open to the idea. That being said, any older child you adopt is going to need a LOT of support and consistency during their adjustment period. That could be very hard to provide if you have long/irregular work hours and no partner. If you adopt a sibling group, it's even more demanding. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Hi,

I'm 26, house broken, enjoy cleanliness to a fault, am open to disciplinary action but am also prone to displaying unbridled hostility to authority figures, will discuss matters of foriegn relations with almost anyone, can cook but not well (you did not define culinary skill), am also skilled at calling a domestic help service over the phone, I find solace in digging things up in gardens, I often use utensils and am an avid student of Jazz Hands.

Adopt me!

Where is this... "Residency School"?
