anyone know which side effect of ACE inhibitors is NOT seen in ARB's? inquiring minds wanna know.. actually my prof wants me to know it, but i tried comparing the two and all the adverse effects seem fairly similar... dizziness, headache, fatigue, etc...

also, he wants us to look up the brand name of 'eposartan' and i can't seem to find it ... is this a typo for something else? (not eprosartan because that's on the list already).

i was thinking cough.. but then that didn't seem like a real 'advantage'.... hmmm

i looked up teveten and it's epRosartan... i was trying to figure out what eposartan (no R) was... i typed it into lexi-comp and it doesn't give me anything.

I think it's a typo.

i was just wondering what it could be a typo for because in the chart i have, there's both of them listed, epRosartan as well as eposartan... maybe he just listed it twice (the second time without the R?) by accident.... if it's a typo.. that's really cruel punishment!! 😕

Google it and it comes up as Tevten, use Facts and Comparisons and it comes up as nothing (needs the "R"). Do you think that the FDA would allow a ONE letter difference in drug names and not have an absolute hissy fit? 😉

cough and angioedema are not seen in ARB's.

and remember that cough IS a significant AE that affects a large number of patients on ACEIs. It can be very troubling and is a significant cause of noncompliance.

I disagree. You still can see cough in ARBs but at a lower percentage. I don't think you see angioedema though.

Lord999 is right, there are lower incidences of cough (because ARBs don't block the degradation of bradykinin), and there are lower incidence of angioedema. There is the possibility of cross-reactivity...patients who have experienced angioedema when on an ACE-I, can have the possibility of angioedema when on an ARB.

You guys are way over analyzing it. I missed many an exam question by doing just that. I'm sure the answer they were looking for was cough and/or angioedema. Though I bet cough alone would have done just fine.

I have a friend who just started pharm school and was on his way to his PHD in chemistry before switching directions. On his first quiz they asked a simple true/false question about ionic bonds, to which, knowing all he knows, he answered the question as false when they were looking for true. He is aware of all the minute exceptions and unfortunately, that may be his undoing. 😉
