I'm in the last summer session of O-Chem 2 at my school right now, and unfortunately I'm at a borderline C/D. I'm also almost done with PharmCAS (just need to finish my personal statement) and was planning on submitting it within the next week. If I end up with a D in O-Chem 2 and don't plan on taking it again until the spring semester (the fall semester is being taught by the same professor I have now, and he can't speak English very well at all), are pharmacy schools just going to trash my application? If I don't pass, should I put O-Chem 2 down as planned for the spring and still have a shot? This stupid class is driving me insane. No problems with O-Chem 1 or either of the labs (I have A's in both of the labs) but I can't seem to get through this one. So basically, are all of my chances ruined applying with a D (or maybe even an F if the final is as bad as his tests), even if I plan on repeating it in the spring? Thanks!

Orgo is pretty important, so I can't imagine how a school would accept you with a D. If you do get the C, you probably still have a chance tho. If you retake it, however, and get like an A or B, I would imagine you'd be fine.

Is it possible to withdraw? Depending on your application a single bad grade might not destroy your chances, but a W is better than a D or F.

If you finish the class and are in as much danger of failing as you say, the schools would likely see the grade after the Fall academic update. This could be a critical time since a lot of schools are either in the middle of scheduling interviews or are about to start. Even if you were to say you're retaking the class, you wouldn't know your spring grade until June '09. By that time, most schools have already finished interviews, filled up all of their seats, and have a long waitlist. If you can't withdraw and end up with a D or F definitely retake the class, but know that your new grade would not help you during this application cycle.

Since the class is only 4 weeks long and we're past the mid-point, it's no longer possible to withdraw. 🙁

If I can somehow take it in the fall and do decent in it, would that give me a chance still, do you think? I'm graduating in the spring and I really don't want to spend a year just working, because then I'll never want to go back to school.

If you get the D I would repeat but if you can squeak the C I would try and apply with that grade.

Quoted for truth - a 'D' is, by all counts except form, a fail. You will have to repeat the course, as most schools will not accept a student without a 'C' or better in all pre-reqs. If you are on the C-D border, than it is NOT to late to pull this one out.

A 'C' is perfectly acceptable for a strong applicant. Work hard and finish strong.
