Advice about year off between first & second year?

Hi!! I am on a leave of absence this year because my husband was ill and having surgery. Thank God it went well and he is recovering fully now.

I could have started 2nd year late and tried to catch up, but chose not to because I already had to remediate biochem this summer (which I passed, but didn't feel confident about starting 2nd year late!)

Just wondering if anyone knows of anyone who successfully took a year off in med school?

Or does anyone have any suggestions about how to retain all the info that I'll need from first year - for boards, and 2nd year?

I have to get a paying full-time job but I'm studying now and will continue to -- just really unsure of the best way to do that.
