Hi everyone,

I guess I don't really have a format/organization for this post, but I guess I'll just shoot some random questions. I am currently applying to many post-bac programs; the Georgetown SMP program is one of them. One of the admissions people told me this week that my application will begin review. They told me three to four weeks for me to get a decision. Is there absolutely anything I could do to enhance my chances of getting in at this point? I have about a 3.5 cum. gpa (much higher non-science than science gpa but very strong upward gpa trend in both) and a decent MCAT (few points below what would get me into a US allopathic school). I took April 2004 MCAT so I wonder if they will wait for my scores (I think I did better than my last attempt)... Should I go ahead and send my Spring 2004 transcript out (which i'm sure is at least 2 A's out of 3 classes) once its available in a few weeks? I am a graduating Senior.

As far as Georgetown SMP, all you physios/ex-physios seemed like you at least enjoyed the program somewhat. You guys are very supportive and have provided a wealth of information about the program... your successes are pretty impressive as well. I can't say the same about any other post bac master's program, at least not from what I'm hearing around.

On that note, I was also wondering if some of you could give me advice:

I applied to several one-year master's programs (Finch, Loyola Chicago, EVMS, Barry, Georgetown SMP, Drexel). So far, I have only heard back and got into Barry.

Barry is not that appealing of an option because I have heard better about other programs. I don't mean to sound arrogant at all, but I think in my situation, my numbers are good enough already for what their school can get me. In other words, I think I would rather go to other programs if I get in because they have better success rates/reputations... Is this an appropriate attitude?

The problem is that I am waiting on everyone else's response and I only have till June 1st to respond to Barry. I think if I had gotten rejected from every program, and ended up only getting to Barry in the end, I would continue at my undergraduate institution taking science classes as a 5th year. Plus it would be nice to stay here in my hometown.

I'm concerned to hear what you guys think... especially if you have heard more information, red flags, good points, etc about any of the above programs. I sort of did this application process blindly in that my only criteria for applying was to find 1 year SMPs whose purpose was to help get students into allopathic medical schools.

I welcome comparisons of programs, lifestyle issues in the particular cities listed, program curriculum, difficulty, competition, avoidance of a lag year etc etc.

Thanks a lot... sorry for the length of the post.

-I hope we can get a good discussion going in general comparing all the 1 year master's programs. It could be beneficial for all of us.

Neither the Drexel MSP or IMS programs are "1 year masters" programs. In order to receive a masters degree, you must complete two years; if you don't, you can only receive a certificate of completion and a Drexel COM transcript.
