I was never big into research but now that I've developed an interest in Emergency Medicine I'm concerned that I don't have any under my belt. Any recommendations on doing research during third year? Is it possible given the time constraints? Would it be better to just do it as an elective during winter break or is that not enough time and a huge waste of a good break anyway? Thanks in advance for any advice.

YOu can do it but it is not necessary to match. I did some but I have to believe that the majority of successfully matched EM folk dont have any!

Excellent to know. I suppose the only hitch is that I'd like to stay in California. So I guess knowing that it's possible I just have to decide if it's worth it. Thanks!
