Hello everyone,

First day as a pharmacist coming up after getting my license this past week. Any advice from you veteran pharmacists in retail on how to go about the first few weeks? Please be light on the sarcasm.

Thanks!

Tread lightly,

1) do not take the job too seriously
2) expect it to come to an end within 1-3 years
3) take it a day at a time and do what you can
4) DO NOT PISS OF CORPORATE PEOPLE! (or your job will be gone)
5) be on board with company (pretend) and try to meet metrics at all times
6) keep quiet, work fast and efficient, don't let the customers even bother you. yes sir, yes, mam (goodbye)
7) Don't get to personal with ANYONE you work with ( it will bite you one day)

thats about it......enjoy retail!

Retail's not so bad. I enjoy it. It's where I intend to practice. Coming from a tech, I can't really give much helpful advice, aside from just be nice to your techs. Congrats on landing a job and on passing your licensure exams!

be frugal, live below you means, and save up, invest up for financial independence

This 100%...live like a broke college student to get student loans GONE (pay debt ASAP) while maxing Mutual Fund, 401k, then HSP for as long as you can: you will still have enough money down the line just don’t let a “big house” and loan payments on a car boggle you down. Being debt free feels greater than a vehicle that depreciates!

1. Stand up for your techs. Your salary is an order of magnitude more than theirs...don’t hang them out to dry when an a-hole patient who’s had a bad day starts to make a scene.
2. Help out when you can...there’s nothing that says a pharmacist can’t vacuum or empty the trash once in a while.
3. And if you interned through school, the transition to pharmacist should come pretty easily. Don’t sweat it.
