I have been preparing for an upcoming interview. There are two question in particular that are frequently asked that I would like some advice on how to answer.

1) When have you overcome adversity?

2) When have you shown compassion?

I don't need a definition lesson but I would like some examples of suitable answers.

Thanks

1) Is your life perfect? Has anything ever gone wrong while you have been studying? Has anyone in the family gotten sick? Have you gotten sick?
2) Have you ever done something extremely nice to a person?

1. No but my parents aren't divorced. I still have all of my grandparents. No one in my immediate family has passed away since I've been alive. Yea I've had to study late or choose between watching the football game or studying but who hasn't. Do they really care if you've had trouble studying???

2. I have done things that would be considered extremely nice but nothing that no other pre-dental hasn't done I would think

Any more suggestions??

Ok,

1) Your answer should be: No, I have not faced any significant adversities.

2) Pick one and say it. It is awkward to talk about yourself positively but they are asking a question and you need to answer it so you have no choice.

Ok so if they ask about adversity my answer should be "I haven't faced any real adversity".....This seems to me like it would come across negative to the adcom. I feel very blessed to not have faced anything that has affected my life but will the adcom really believe there is ABSOLUTLY nothing that I've had to overcome.

How small can an act of compassion be for the adcom to view it as significant?

Thanks for your help everyone.

as small as picking out stray animal and giving it home...
point is they not trying to trick you... they will be trying to get to know you... so go ahead and say that compare to many other life stories you have known your life has been a blessing and privilege- you have been raised by loving parents and had financial security not to face any financial and life hardships... but does one has to loose a limb to know/ imagine what is to live without one?.... there might be some memorable episodes in your life when you though to yourself- wow, how lucky I am to have this or that...

Thanks this was the kind of information I was looking for....
