I'm stuck between dental and medical. When it comes down to applying, I'm sure I'll just apply to one of them, but while I'm in college, can I do some unisex research/volunteering that would look good to both med and dental schools? And is it conceivable to study for both the MCAT and DAT.
So far I've observed a radiologist, neurosurgeon (wicked cool), and a general dentist.
Applying to both would be great, if it weren't for the fact that there are 24 hours in a day and money doesn't grow on trees. But I was thinking, I don't want to shadow a doctor for two years and then decide I actually want to be a dentist and have nothing dentistry-related to put on my application. I'm not being greedy and trying to go for both, I have a genuine interest in both fields and don't know what to do. Anyone have any experience in this?

Go into a dentist's office for 2-3 days and shadow. Then go to a doctor's office for 2-3 days and shadow. I don't think it would be possible or smart to study for both the MCAT and DAT. Yes, dentistry would be a lot easier than medicine, but which do you enjoy more?

basic science research would look great for both (biochemistry probably suits both the best)

Just standard volunteering would look great when applying to either. You know, stuff that helps out your community. Volunteering at a soup kitched, batterred women shelter, animal shelter,, Habitat for Humanity, etc. etc. Show that you just care about helping others in general, because either profession will want to see this characteristic in applicants.
