hi, I was wondering that my undergrad is coming to a near(major is bio), I have a 3.1-3.2 GPA maximum both science and cumulative, haven't taken the MCAT yet. Let me be realistic, if I don't get in what do I do, postbacc? masters? please don't be sarcastic, I HAVE done a search, thanks!😍

SMP is usually the route a lot of kids take.

You could do either a Post-bac or SMP. Depends on what kind of classes you have taken. I'm assuming that you've taken all your science pre-reqs - then something like a Special Sciences program might be good for you through a post-bac. That way you can pull up your GPA and take upper level science courses. However, an SMP might work just as well. I would check out the Post-bac thread. There are a lot of people in your situation and you could also check out other posts that describe the pros and cons of each type of program and find out what might better suit you.

Also have you talked with your advisor?

do well on the MCAT.

Do a postbacc program that isn't undergraduate level. Go somewhere like Drexel, PCOM or Loyola and do a graduate level program that will make you more competitive for medical school. Retake the MCAT. Schools will give you more respect if you can do all of this while working full time in research. People who work full time look badass when compared to students in programs who just take classes...you have credibility when you say you can handle the demands of med school. Hard? You bet. Here's to hoping you can pull it off the first time around. If you don't get in, toughen up and kick *** or roll over and give up. TT is right, growing a mustache helps, so does lifting weights.

Good luck.

If you've already taken all of your pre-req's I'd suggest getting a job in the field. Right now I work at a top comprehensive cancer center doing clinical research and the experience is amazing. It's like a mini-medical school with my own patients and everything. The DO I work for has me working hard on additional manuscripts and research projects. Find a mentor and stick with them! I'm finally published and started presenting at national cancer conferences. Networking has helped a lot too, getting to know other physicians in the field and just sucking up as much experience as possible. Plus it doesn't help to take a chunk out of those student loans!! 🙂

Any advice on where I can find a DO mentor/physican I can shadow and be mentored?

Go volunteer at a busy ER if there is one nearby. There will probably be DO's there.

What you can definitely do:
1. Get involved in research.
2. Shadow a DO or a MD (preferrably a DO so you can get a rec for DO schools).

What you might be able to do:
1. Get a 30+ on the MCAT.
If this fails, you have 2 options:
1. Study harder and retake the MCAT and only retake it if you are confident enough to score a 30+.
-or-
2. Take a SMP program such as the one from Drexel.
