Hey guys I'm a Junior with absolutely no experience in volunteering in the medical field so I was wondering what should I start with. I plan to take some time off to get a ton of experience and apply in about 3 years. Should I look for just some basic hospital volunteer work or should I look for something more substantial and just jump right in. Thanks in advance.

Get your EMT card. Depending on your location, hospital work could be something as mundane as answering the phone at the help desk. As much as you try to glorify that, it's still a non-PCR desk job...

Free clinics are a great choice too. You will often be thrown into direct patient contact positions immediately; with a little additional training, you could become a patient advocate, case manager, or counselor. It's seemed to be a hit in my interviews so far for what its worth...

You don't necessarily have to volunteer at a hospital. Most of my medical volunteer work was through hospice and Children's Miracle Network. You can also gain shadowing experience by contacting local doctors to see if you can shadow them (instead of working in a hospital).
