Hey all,

I am currently enrolled in a post baccalaureate program at an unnamed osteopathic medical school. I know the whole point of doing such a program is to make up for a poor undergrad GPA. As of right now, I'm looking at getting about a 3.2 GPA in the program. My question to everyone is: Does this look bad compared to an undergrad GPA of 3.4? Will getting a lower GPA now hurt my chances of getting into the med school? (Only the 1st semester counts toward acceptance since we have our interviews early in the Spring).

Any advice from someone who has done one of these programs is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes, have taken the MCAT. It was in low 20's. Bump, please help anyone.

Wait, are you applying now and only to the school you are attending? Have you thought about retaking your MCAT because it sounds like your GPA is at least decent.

I don't want to discourage you but.... 3.4 in undergrad and 3.2 in postbacc doesn't look good.... it just shows that as you got older and more mature, you became less responsible.....

my other question is, why did you go for the post-bacc with a 3.4? thats a good GPA for all DO programs....

that was the bad news, the good news is, your not in a deep hole, your overall GPA is probebly still around 3.3 (which is pretty good still), so in my opinion, I think your fine (just as long as you don't go and score something like a 20 on the MCATs)

just a question here, wouldn't they place MOST weight on the post bacc grades considering they're basically first year medical school classes? In saying that, a 3.2 is ~a B/B+ which is good for medical school classes. I hope they look at it that way

I was reading somewhere on SDN (thus, it has to be true:laugh:), that postbacs are easier than first year medical school classes because they are a smaller load.

it is, but you basically take the same thing minus a few classes. thus why everyone who takes a post bacc from a med school usually strolls in and kills the test on no prep
