Pls help me with this schedule.....

Summer 03 - Completed Gen Chem requirements
Fall 03 - completed BIO 1 and ORG 1
Wint 03-04 - will complete BIO 2 and ORG 2
Spring 04 - will complete BIO 3 and ORG 3

***writing MCAT while Spring 04 in progress *******

Applying in June before I complete Spring 04.

Here are my questions:

(1) I've got the Physics and English prereqs from 10+ years ago. If I ace VR and PS, will this be an issue?

(2) Is it okay to apply before Spring 04 grades are out? They get released only in mid-June - and I'm not sure I want to wait to send out the AMCAS app until then.

Any advice would be great

I'd wait to submit until your spring grades are out. I don't know though, maybe someone can help me out with this, too....I'm on quarters and my spring grades won't come out until the second week or so of June but I've been told to wait to submit until those come out.

I'm not sure, but I think that some schools may require you to update your physics. I think, and I could be wrong, if a core requirement is more than 7 or 8 years old, then you should update or take an upper level course in place of it. Others on here would know more, I'm sure. Good luck

Call the schools that you want to apply to and ask them whether these courses are sufficient to fill prereq requirements. If they are sufficient, get your transcripts to AMCAS on the earliest date that they accept them (typically the May before they start accepting applications).

Yes. You can also order your transcripts to go out when your Spring semester grades come out. Transcripts are typically the thing that hold your AMCAS application up, so it really wouldn't matter if you waited to send them. Get your application in when it is ready and stay on top of your institution to make sure that the transcripts get out as soon as they are available.

You might also want to take a look at the AMCAS Instruction Guide (if you haven't already) - there may be some answers to your questions there as well.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I would wait for the spring grades. My AMCAS was certified in the end of July since I sent one of the transcripts late. I still got very early interviews (although some I'm still waiting for). These grades are important to adcoms because they're from required courses. In addition, I would retake physics and maybe 1 english class. I think many schools want your science requirements to be a max of 4 years old.

Just for argument's sake - what would be wrong if I went ahead and submitted AMCAS without spring grades - and then sent in the spring transcripts to the medical schools separately? That way, the school would have all the info it needs, but I wouldn't be stuck with the excessive delays of AMCAS.

Acab - I think I'm stuck with retaking Physics and 1 course of Eng - however, I will do this only after applying, and indicate as such in my app.

My experience has been that interviewers want a quite concise description of your file (many times they'll read it right before meeting you). They print out the AMCAS grades & essays, and usually have their file right in front of them during the interview. If your grades come out by the end of June, I'd wait (assuming you have a competitive gpa & mcat). If they come out after June, I'd go ahead & submit AMCAS without spring grades and then submit transcripts to schools individually.

As for the physics, make sure you're really confortable with it before the MCAT. If you ace it, maybe some schools won't really care that you're taking the course concurrently with applications.

Hope this helps....
