So I am a a late applicant.

The AADSAS apps were submitted in late OCT.
DAT was in Nov, Pat: 21 AA/AS: 20/20
GPA: 3.2 but this is where is gets confusing. 2.75 at a CC and then 3.67 after transferring to a University.
2 years oral surgery assisting experience after graduation, volunteer work, great LOR's.

I know I have the low GPA against me, but I proved I can do the classwork with a 3.67 at the university (Its not like I did well at a CC and couldn't cut it at a harder school).

I applied to 18 schools and have 4 rejection letters so far.

I'm worried that the rest are going to come back as rejection letters also. The question is, do I just try and relax and not worry so much until this cycle is over?

Or, do I need to start figuring out what to do for next year. I have a feeling that just resubmitting my exact same app in June will get me a few hits. Do you think that's accurate? Or do I need to be looking for a Post-bac program? The classes will boost my GPA a little, but I think the difference in GPA from CC to Univ shows that I have gotten my ass in gear. Or is the fact that I took Gen Chem and Gen Bio at a CC hurting me even though I proved that I know those subjects on the DAT? I don't think there is anyway to retake those classes, so I hope going to a CC wasn't shooting myself in the foot.

Any advice or comments are welcome, I will do whatever it takes to get into school and I just want to figure out what route I should take.

The storm in So Cal has me stuck inside, cant get out and keep my mind of dental apps... its killing me!

4/18 isn't so bad. Seriously, you have some time...try to hang in there. Any interviews yet? Just keep in contact with the schools. You never know!

Well I think that the Oral Surgery assisting is really great and you should focus on that GPA for next cycle (if you don't get in).

If you are early next year and you work on that GPA, I think you have a good shot. I mean a 3.2 isn't the worst GPA in the world. The avg for dental schools is around a 3.4-3.5? That's not significantly higher. But still, it is pretty low and you need to have a plan for next cycle, if it comes down to that.

You should definitely do something about your GPA. Your 2.67 in CC, but this GPA includes your PRE-REQUISITES which are some of the most difficult and important classes. I don't think that it hurts you that they were at a CC as much as it hurts that they are low grades. I say up your GPA with full loads of upper level science courses. Get you science GPA up there and then reapply.

A masters is costly and did you already apply for it? I mean, if you are going to do one this fall, you would need to start applying AND you would need to find a one year masters program.

Best of luck. 😀

I am super excited. I just got an interview for NYU yesterday, scheduled for Feb 1st. It gives me some hope that maybe I'll get a couple more interviews. As long as I dont have to reapply next year, im stoked.

How many interviews does NYU usually give out?

Congrats on the interview! Generally speaking NYU hands out 500+ interviews to fill their 200+ class since a lot of people turn down their offer because of high tuition. For the same reason they generally accept a lot of those whom they interview. Nov submission is really late but its good you heard back from NYU.
