Being a religious person I can only believe that this was an act of God to change direction in my life. I AM a smart person

You def have a chance. Just apply and see what happens. Your gpa is solid so that may make up for the lower DAT score. I think the average DAT for the 3 schools that accept it is an 18.

So if you are trying to get in this fall, apply NOW with what you have and go for it, I'm sure you have a chance, just get on it. If you are applying for next year's cycle, take the MCAT this summer and broaden your horizon a bit, apply to more than just that one or two podiatry schools that happen to still take the DAT, you might find you want to go to one of the other schools. Good Luck!

Make sure that you actually want to go into podiatry before you start applying. Otherwise you ARE just using it as a backup and you don't know if you'll be happy professionally. This late in the application process, I would say start shadowing and take the MCAT. Take the year off and decide if this is really for you. Get a good LOR from a podiatrist and then apply early in the next cycle.

Spend a hundred bucks on a Kaplan book and study yourself and take it early in the summer that way you can retake it if need be. Much of the science material you studied will still apply to the MCAT. What I would be worried about is passing Boards 1, if you have that hard of a time with standardized tests will you be able to pass boards? prove to yourself you can do it by doing decent on the MCAT.

Wait so you know for sure you want to go into podiatry even though you haven't shadowed yet?

Personally, I don't think doing bad on the DAT means God is telling you to change your career.

May I suggest that you retake the DAT 1 more time and apply to Dental School before you make a huge career move? You should study using the DAT Destroyer: http://www.orgoman.com/datdestroyer.html

I used the OAT Destroyer (the same as DAT except OAT has physics instead of PAT) and I killed it. 380 AA, 390 Science which roughly converts to about a 22-23 on the DAT. I also finished the OAT about an hour early (I finished the first part...the bio, chem, orgo in 45 min...half the time). And I attribute my success to the OAT Destroyer.

It's hard to give an accurate OAT -> DAT conversion because even though I got numerous 400's ("perfect" score on OAT), one can miss about 3-5 questions and still get a 400 whereas 3-5 questions on the DAT would bring you down to mid to low 20's.

EDIT: I think you should still shadow the Podiatrist to see if you do like it or not. And if you end up thinking Podiatry is a better fit for your interests then go ahead and apply this next cycle. Good luck!!

Dont waste your time and money on prep courses, I highly recommend the Examkrackers set (content review and most importantly the 1001 questions).

👍 Examkrackers worked well for me. Take all the practice tests you can. Its expensive but 100% worth it.
