Hey everyone, I'm currently finishing up my sophomore year and I have a CUM GPA of 3.41 with my sGPA around the same. However, I am finishing up the semester and I will probably end up with As in 2 gen ed courses, a B? in chemistry, and a B/A in Biology. However, if I get a B in my bio course, my GPA will roughly drop to a 3.37 cGPA, I believe. So I was wondering, would it be better to take an incomplete if I do get a B in the class and retake it with a different instructor? Really not liking my professor for this class. If I manage to get an A, however, I can still go up to a 3.45. Not sure what to do... really dont want my GPA to go down. Did a fair share of GPA recovery as it is, would hate for it to go back down.

Holy crap man, you kids are becoming more and more ridiculous. You take the B. It looks A LOT worse to take an incomplete than to get a B in a class. Get it together

Take the B. You are a sophomore, and you have time to recover. Just work harder in the future.

Also, buy some sandals. :meanie: <(Sarcasm).

Wow what a coincidence! I came on the forums to ask almost the same question. I am also a sophomore and will be a junior in the fall. I will be finished with my prereqs at the end of this semester. I have a slight problem, I made C's in both of my semesters of Organic, and one C in genetics (not a pre-req). Overall all my others grades are A's and B's. I kind of destroyed my gpa my first semester of freshman year making a 3.65 but raised it making a 4.0 in my second semester of freshman year but went slightly down to a 3.49 since last semester. It looks like this semester I will make 1 C and 4 A's so my gpa will go up. My science gpa is probably in the 3.3-3.49 region. So, finally the question at hand, should I retake my Org II class in the semester? I am very sure that I will make a B - B+ and might make an A. If I don't do organic in the summer I will take 12 hours (4 classes) of psychology in the summer but those won't raise my sGPA. And also what do you guys think about a double major in BCMB and Psychology. Only reason I took psychology is to balance out my BCMB classes and also I literally have finished all my gen. ed. requirements so my schedule looks empty, even with a double major all I have is 12 hours for my whole seniors year. And also, psychology seems very interesting and not to mention easy.

Do you think getting a B in Biochemistry in the fall might make up for the Organic Chemistry C? I know that biochemistry and organic are very different but would it prove anything?

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

Yeah, I really do need to get it together. Thanks for that haha.

LOL. Will do.

That's not really destroying your GPA... lol. But I understand.

I wouldn't be able to answer this, as I am asking for advice myself. But perhaps someone else can answer this for you.

I don't mean to hog your post btw. Just thought we are kind of in the same boat so why not post my question here as well.

Please tell me how a 3.65 is a "destroyed" GPA. I'm sorry I just don't understand.

To me getting a 3.65 gpa in my first semester of college in "easy" science classes is bad for me. I wanted to come out of my freshman year with a 4.0 gpa so that getting some bad grades such as in Organic wouldn't put a major dent in my gpa. My second semester of freshman year was much harder, more hours bit I pulled a perfect 4.0. In afterthought I think why didn't I try harder to make a perfect 4.0 those courses compared to Organic is like eating a piece of cake. I don't know the first semester was like a brick in my face. It took me the semester to realize that your professors are completely useless, they can't teach, you are on your own and college is a huge rip off (mainly gen. ed requirements). The sole reason for my 4.0 in my second semester was that 3.65.
Hope that explains it.

Don't be so neurotic about it. I think not being able to pull the 4.0 actually takes some stress off of you. Now you know that Bs will NOT kill you and life goes on. Since you got the 4.0 semester (taking harder classes), it shows you have what it takes when you step up your game. Organic is a tough class, but don't go into it expecting to do poorly. It's absolutely possible to ace it if you give it the time required and the attention it needs.

My organic professor was brilliant (a little socially awkward, but brilliant nonetheless), and he told us that lecture was like a piece of cardboard and organic was quicksand. He would continue to cover the quicksand with a piece of cardboard and our job was to climb up on each piece he laid out (learn it). If we skipped a day, fine, but be ready to climb two pieces tomorrow. If we skipped two days, might as well consider ourselves sunk because the next piece of cardboard is gonna be put on our heads rather than under our feet.
