I am currently a sophomore in college, and i should graduate at the end of my junior year. i am not rushing through things, but its just the way it's worked out some how. However, right now i have a predicament because i cannot decide which classes to take next semester. So far i have taken the following pre-reqs:

Calc 1

Stats 1

Engl 1&2

Psych

Chem 1&2

AP credit Bio 1

Bio Lab 1

Physics 1 + lab

O Chem 1

And so the courses that i have to finish for prerequisites are

O Chem 2

Physics 2 + Lab

Ochem Lab

Micro Biology + lab

Biochem

The issue is that my schedule for next semester is looking like this.

Ochem 2

Physics 2

Physics 2 lab

Genetics

Statistics 2 (major req).

Which is full of science courses, which i am somewhat okay with but i think may too much to maintain all A's with. However because i am planning to apply this next cycle, i think it is very important that i at least have one upper division biology course under my belt, and i think that microbiology is too difficult to fit into my schedule.

So SDN i am asking for your advice, would you stick with the semester i have planned, or would you push Physics back until the year after i apply? Or would you move genetics around? Or something else entirely? I will take biochem and ochem lab in the summer just fyi. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

There are a LOT of dental schools that will not take AP credits for pre-req classes (your bio AP) so factor that into your schedule. Do you have a 4.0 right now? A lot of us have full schedules of math/science classes and do fine. How did you get all of your gen eds done in 1 1/2 years along with all of those science classes? Why the rush to graduate early?

At the end of my interview at my state school, one lady explained the difficulty of dental school and asked me what indications there were that I could handle it. (My first degree is in music, so maybe they thought I was a lightweight.) I pointed out a series of heavy semesters of straight science with straight A's and how much I'm working during my gap year. All the interviewers immediately looked down and started writing notes, one laughing and saying "yeah you'll have no problem" and another looking to the lady who asked and saying "I'm glad you asked that question."

You don't have to take that full of a schedule---I would say grades are more important overall... but what if the applicants you're competing against pulled it off?

Anyway, I got in to that school. Which is good, cause my app was in the late side and it was my only pre-Dec interview.

Thank you for responding, this makes me think I should definitely keep my schedule the way it is. Thanks again!

Well I'm not really in a rush per se, I just don't like having nothing to do so I take a lot of classes, I do not have a 4.0 after this semester is should be around 3.82. Thank you for bringing up the AP credit information I was able to find a thread that provided the lists of schools that allow it and those that do not.

Schedule looks great. you can do it!
