I am pleased with my MCAT:

34R:
PS-13
V-9
BS-12
WS-R

I will also be finishing my PhD in physiology before matriculating with a few publications/presentations and excellent volunteer and hospital-setting experience. I also have a 3.95 Science GPA and have had a 4.0 for the last 6 years of school (undergrad is 3.65). My question is this - i want to stay in academic medicine at a big research school (Duke, UCSD, Yale, etc), what are my chances with this score - is the 9 in V a consideration at all?

Medical friends tell me my medical and research endeavors, experience, and goals with a 3.9 science, PhD, good interview, and 34 with good science scores will get me into Duke or UCSD type places from out of state. I am skeptical because coming in out of state is so hard - thoughts?

Congrats on you MCAT. It's a good enough score, even the 9 VR, to prevent automatic rejection from places, even the top academic centers. From your description of your other achievements, I think you have a good shot at your dream schools. On the other hand, just keep in mind that, even with your record, you're not guaranteed to get into any medical school. I'd worry more about your letters, your essays, and your interviews than I would about your MCAT score.

Thanks for the feedback! I am really excited about the chance to be at a leading research institution, so i can stop worrying that the MCAT will keep me out.
