Do you think it would be better for me to submit my app now with 3 hours of shadowing (ophthalmology - observing eye exams, no surgeries) or wait until the end of July to submit my application, when I will have some more shadowing hours? I have ~300 hours, ~6 months of scribing experience too, which is considered 'glorified shadowing.'

Thank you in advance for your help.

If your upcoming shadowing hours are set-in-stone, then you can always include them on the application and submit now anyway.

Do not wait to submit your application! I can't stress this enough.

I submitted mine late last year and saw friends (with lower stats) get twice as many interviews as I did.

You could do what 0beron said most definitely, and you can also provide schools with update letters later in the cycle. Trust me it will take long enough for AMCAS to process your application. You do not want to wait.

What would you consider not being late? Would around June 20th still be ok?

With your scribing experience, there's no need to delay.

June 20th is still okay but once you have everything ready to go, don't delay submitting it. Mentioning that you will be getting additional shadowing hours over the summer is fine.

I can't really give you a date unfortunately. I would suggest doing whatever you can to get that application in! I made the mistake of letting my job take too much of my time and put off submitting my application until mid July. That being said, obviously any date in June is better than in July.

From my experience this past year, those that submitted around July had to wait longer for AMCAS to verify their primary application (~3-4 weeks)... whereas those that submitted earlier in June seemed to have only waited ~1-2 weeks, likely because AMCAS had less applications to process at that point.

For many programs, the sooner you submit, the sooner your application will be in their queue!
