I just finished the GenChem and Physics TBR books and do not feel ready to confront the real MCAT, whenever that may be.

For Physics, my scores were 9, 10, 10, 10, 10, 11, 12, 11, 13, 8 (yeah, I know. This was optics and I’m extremely weak on geometry), average 10.4. For GenChem, my scores were 11, 11, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 11, 11, 12, average 11.3.

I’d be thrilled if I scored a 10-11 on the real MCAT PS, but I feel like I should be doing better on practice tests. My mistakes are a mix of comprehension and careless (misreading, sloppy math errors). My comprehension is generally ok when I’m reviewing the chapter, but there are always a few passages where I have no clue what they’re asking. The careless errors usually happen because I’m struggling with another passage and running out of time.

Is my progress sufficient? Is my stumbling block poor comprehension or is it poor test-taking skills?

If it’s due to lack of understanding, I should probably review more and will try to find a TPRH science workbook or buy EK 101.

If my problem is test taking, then I’ll assume that TBR’s content review is sufficient and invest in more AAMCs/TBR CBTs.
Thank you!

TBR is much harder than the real thing.

I was average a 12ish on the TBR passages and got a 14 in PS on the real thing. Take one AAMC to gauge where you're at. Don't use anything other than the AAMCs as predictors of your score.

looks like you're doing really well. i don't think i ever got higher than a 9 on my TBR's (usually an 8 or 7) but I ended up with an 11 in PS. And I agree - AAMC is a better judge of the real score (although my first time taking it I scored 4 points below my AAMC avg., my second time I scored exactly my AAMC avg.)

Did you already go through BS?? If you haven't and are doing that for the next month I'd make sure and still do a few passages a day in the PS section so you stay fresh with that. I found there was so much material on the MCAT that I had to be constantly refreshing my memory in all subjects or I'd quickly go rusty. just a thought! Good luck - it seems like you'll do well! 🙂

This is good advice.

Those are good scores. Be careful with aamc though, since you are used to tbr grading, the results of AAMC may freak you out since you have to miss less questions to get in the 10-12 range.
