I noticed schools usually include "DO NOT write about the MCAT, a course, or an academic issue" for this prompt but I wanted to talk about this:

I was awarded a full-scholarship during high school from my state institution. I was prepared to go to this school until one month before classes started, the school called and said my scholarship was rescinded. They had originally overlooked my immigration status and I was suddenly ineligible for the scholarship. As a DACA recipient, I had to scramble to find ways to fund my education since I am also ineligible for financial aid.

I wanted to write about the struggle of having to find ways to fund my education throughout college and support my family at the same time. Is this an appropriate topic or would this be considered an academic issue?

That seems like a very legitimate issue.... I think they are more worried about if you did badly in a class and 'pulled yourself up by your boot straps etc..."
