Hello! Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am looking for volunteer opportunities and I have a few questions about the ones that I have found and what med schools are looking for.

I am planning on volunteering in a local hospital, but I want more community service on top of that. These are the things that I have found:

1. Reading to students and helping them develop their reading skills at their school.

2. Being a "Big Sister" to a child.

3. Working in a food pantry stocking shelves and as a "cashier."

4. Working in a hospice - there are two opportunities; either to answer phones and direct visitors or to sit with patients and read to them, write letters for them, etc.

I would enjoy doing any of these, but I am having a problem choosing where to spend my time because I don't know what will look best; are schools just looking for signs of a giving personality or should I focus more on volunteering in medical settings?

Finally, I know that schools are looking for clinical experience, but I honestly don't have a firm idea of what that means. 😳 Would volunteering in a hospice as someone who sits with patients count as clinical experience because I would have direct contact with patients? Or is that not really what they're looking for lol?

Please forgive my obvious lack of knowledge, and thank you in advance for your help!

Anything medical related like EMS,hospice are good because they show you are interested in medicine and that you have a variety of experience.

Do something where you can show initiative.
