I am a NJ resident(but born and raised in new york city) I attend a local liberal arts college in South Jersey. I currently have a 3.97sGPA and a 3.93 cGPA as a senior; my major is biology (but I have about 5 biochemistry classes with a chemistry minor). I chose this school because of the scholarship they gave me as well as how close to home it is. I got into very good schools but i decided I wanted to get my BS over with with as little debt as possible. I hope it doesn't bite me in the ass when I go to apply.

I am set to take my MCAT in 2 weeks. I know i'm going to be incredibly late for this cycle but I'd rather take a chance and spend a few bucks. I am scoring consistent 10-12's on PS and BS but my verbal is not horrendous but its not the best; I think on test day Ill have more focus than I do studying at home.

I have over 500 hours of medical internship and I am a founding father of a fraternity. I am an editor for the school news paper and I have one semester of computational research on drug design. I don't have alot of research but I work at an R&D pharmaceutical chemistry lab. I have all the research techniques and lab etiquette that would have been gained from doing research. I also completed SMDEP at Duke.

I would like to know my shots at an Ivy league school like Dartmouth or Cornell...I would really like to get into an NJ school but I know its very late. I sent 3/4 of my life in New York(Queens) so I wanted to know if a SUNY school would still favor me as a product of New York. I am graduating a semester early so Ill have a full time job at the pharma lab while i wait for admissions decisions. What would be the MCAT cut off in order to gain acceptance into some mid tier MD's and even some upper level MD's and also what about the MCAT for some research heavy DO schools; although I havent done much research I am still interested in it, my school did not have many opportunities for me to conduct research but I did what I could. I think ill have 3 outstanding LOR's as well.

Thank You

Why waste the money? it is rather late in the cycle.

I think so far your chances are outstanding. Nothing wrong with aiming high.

Being from a neighboring state will be OK, even for SUNYs. Naturally, the big if will be how you do on your MCAT.

Upper level: 35+
Mid tier: 32-35
low tier 28/29+

DO schools? High 20s
Research happy schools will want research experience, natch.
Good luck!

Thank you...I will already have been out of school for 6 months I didn't want to wait to matriculate(I don't really want to have a gap year)...but do you think the research will hurt me even though im working in R&D(strictly chemical stability testing ) and I am planning on doing research this upcoming semester...I wont be able to include that as an experience right?

It's way too late for an MD application. Take the MCAT when your practice tests are at least 2 points better than your target score. If your score is weak it will still be visible forever...
