Hello, I am interested in becoming a doctor, but my educational pathway is nontraditional. I am just trying to get some advice on what steps I should take when it is time for me to start applying to medical school. I graduated high school in 2020. I failed out of undergrad the first two years. I became an EMT during that time, and this year, 2026, will make 4 years as one. I also graduated from a respiratory therapy program in March, becoming a respiratory therapist. I am currently getting my bachelor's in respiratory therapy. I will be graduating in December of 2027. I do not have the required general education credits like biology, chemistry, etc. I do not really want to do a post-bac program if I don't have to. I was wondering if I could take my general education classes at a nearby university or maybe community college. I hope to become a neonatal-pediatric doc focusing on emergency medicine, pulmonology, or surgery. It would be greatly appreciated if you all could give me some recommendations and opinions on how I can grow during my journey to medical school. Thank you.
