well i know this is not a popular question but I'll ask anyway... I have a214/88 on step 1 and have have received passes in all my rotations with the exception of medicine which i received a HP. I was wandering do I even have a chance at EM... I plan to take step 2 in July to hopefully boost up my step 2 score at least by 10 to 15 points. Do you think that is a good idea? Oh I do also attend a top 20 med school, I personally don't think that helps any but I am just throwing it out there... anyway any advice is much appreciated 🙂

Anything is possible, but you must kick step 2's @ss.

I had mostly high passes and a 217.

Nailed a 245 on step 2. Was mentioned at EVERY SINGLE interview.

I'd like to say it helped. Boards and Wards and Step 2 Secrets. Know them, live them.

And beyond that, it's anyone's guess. Work hard, ace audition rotations, and score some "walks on water" letters. You know, like we tell everyone to.

Good luck,
Danielle

Y'know, people say things like this a lot... I go to a top X school... what list is being used for this? US News and World Reports? Medical Schools Weekly? The Flexner Report?

I guess if I have to ask, then I probably didn't go to a top anything school.

Well I am basing my data on the research ranking on the US news report... Again I personally don't this helps at all.

You are still very much in the ballgame. The key is to do well in your EM rotations. Get one PD to like you and put it in writing. Then the others will try to steal you away.

I went to a top 25 osteopathic medical school and matched at a top 148 allopathic EM program. Step 1 was 204 and slightly higher on Step 2. Anything is possible... do well on rotations, do VERY well on auditions, do you best on Step 2, and rock your interviews. If you have doubts then cast a wider net.

great quote!

Scores are just one part of the equation. Get some good LORs. Taking Step 2 early is a good idea. Show people that you are someone they enjoy working with.
