Hello,
I am new to the site and wanted to reach out for a little help. I am 29 and I currently work for a biopharmaceutical company as a chemist. I love chemistry but hate the work. I've worked here for 4 years and I told myself last year that 2009 would be the last year I continued doing a job I don't love...or even like. I've been here this long because I'm a homeowner, my husband and I have 2 children and so you do what you must sometimes. I was recently offered a teaching position for the fall teaching high school chemistry so I'll be leaving this job for the classroom. It's a pay cut but not too bad and I'm excited about the opportunities. While in grad school I knew I wanted to go into forensic denistry but the thought of going back to school for 4 more years after grad school was just something I couldn't stomach at the time. Well I'm back at it again and now I'm ready to take the plunge. I plan to apply for fall 2010 admission. My husband supports my decision and is excited for me but I know this will be a lot of work for him as he may find himself as the primary caretaker of our children. I want to be happy with what I do and provide for my family as well.
Thoughts, Comments...anyone in my boat... hope to hear from you soon.

Hi! You are going to do great! And you are very lucky that after college and a masters you don't have to go and take all the requirements. Some schools have added biochemistry, microbiology, and even anatomy and physiology. I saw one school that requires a sociology class, but over all is the basic sciences which you probably already have. I'm not sure how old requirements have to be for dental school. Maybe someone else here can answer that. Some schools don't take requirements more than 8 yrs old. I'm not 100% sure. I'm applying this summer and taking the DAT. With your chemistry background you are going to do great on the DAT! I too have 2 children and yes, it's going to be a challenge, but if you have lots of support and help you will make it and will some what keep your sanity 🙂
