background: 26 mcat, 3.5 cgpa, 3.93 sgpa. the reason for strange gpa breakdown is I'm a non-trad with high g.p.a since going back to school. 330 hours volunteering in E.R. 40 hours shadowing. 1 semester research. T.A. esque position for a semester in A&P.

applied to: KCOM (alternate), KCUMB( should here back soon), LMU-DCOM (no call for interview), MU-COM (rejected), SIU (should here back soon, longshot). kinda applied late in general, waited for my mcat to come back in September and should have applied to more schools.

Should I apply to more schools this late or accept my fate and rebuild for next year? I'm going to be 28 soon, so another year down the drain would be hard to take. Any advice would be appreciated.

Your stats are awesome, I really wonder why you didn't hear from LMU though? As an underdog, now i'm worried..

If you don't care about spending the money and are really worried about not getting in, then yea apply to a couple more schools!

Your application is good. You should have definitely applied to more schools (at least 10). People should understand that getting into med school can be a crapshoot. Sometimes schools that your are competitive for (statwise) might not even offer an interview, and at the same time schools you might have thought was a long shot invite you for interview. You should call the ones that have not rejected you and see what's up with your application.

This is a good answer.

Id also add that, in general, your stats and not having a weird PS or too many red flags on your app will get you an interview. You have the stats to get multiple interviews (yes, you should have probably applied to a few more schools)

But, then, the crazy thing about being accepted to med school is that even after you achieve the very difficult and receive an interview...you still only have about a 50/50 chance at most schools to be accepted. So, also, see if you need to work on interview skills. Many undergrads will have mock interviews available, or at the very least look up some tips on youtube and practice.

Good luck!

It's sort of like buying dice. The more you buy, the more you can roll.

I would not apply to anymore at this point, far too late in the cycle. Apply this next cycle and apply to MORE schools (at least 10 in my opinion). Your stats are good, you should get several interviews if you apply early (right away in June/July). Also, a tip for LMU-DCOM, they like it if you show interest in them. I submitted my secondary, then emailed them a couple weeks later regarding my status, they updated me with where my app was at. I waited a month and contacted again just inquiring about my status, they saw my email and I received an interview invite that same day. I've heard of this happening to other people who've applied to LMU, too. Just a tip 😉
Good luck to you! :luck:

Your numbers are fantastic but I think it's a bit late in the cycle to try for more schools. I'd be surprised if you didn't get into any of the ones already on your list.

Suggest trying only a few more schools, to go easy on your wallet. Good luck!

As stated above. Give LMU a call. You have decent stats and they are non-trad friendly. Definitely worth an attempt.

If you wind up reapplying, submit your app early and I bet you'll get more bites. Good luck!

my hope is riding on KCUMB. i interviewed in late Jan and waiting for a response, should be within the next week( the thread for KCUMB says the class is now full, so hopefully the decision for my interview date was included in that). emailed DCOM with no luck, tried to call but it was static. will call again soon

Also, if you need to re-apply, be sure to have a few people read your PS just in case. Maybe you already did that, though, but I thought Id mention it just in case

update: a.w.p.a. from siu today! so that's a positive
