Hi guys, so I finally decided dentistry was for me back in September of this year and I work full time so I started studying for the DAT in mid September an hour after work each day and heavy on the weekends, I was trying to rush everything in so I could meet a deadline for a school on January 1st this year and ended up with not so great scores (took it december 28)
PAT: 18
QR: 14
RC: 18
Bio: 15
General Chem: 18
Organic Chem: 18
Total Science: 17
Academic average: 17
I left Biology for last to study since it was my strongest field without any studying and did not get to finish reviewing it (only did the dat destroyer biology questions and only got to question 300/550), of course they asked about meiosis and mitosis and genetics A LOT on my exam which not only did I not get to review but genetics is my weakest subject in Biology.
My dad wants me to apply anyways because he says other parts of my application could weigh in and I could get lucky...
The question is will applying to dental schools here in California hurt my chances for next year? In other words will sending an application this year and them seeing my dat scores make them put my application in the "reject" or "lets look at him last" pile next year?
I have 50+ hours of shadowing with two dentists and letters of recommendation. I had a 3.34 GPA (finished with straight A's In hard bio classes like Medical Microbiology in my transcript) in college am now 24, am a minority and am working full time trying to get ahead (not sure if to put that last part somewhere in the app).
Also opinions on my studying strategy are appreciated: and remember I was in a time crunch
- Reviewed Dat destroyer (didn't finish Biology section but completely went through all others)
- Chads videos (watched pretty much all organic videos and my weak parts in Gen Chem, also watched all the QR videos but still got a 14 on that section)
I feel depressed and helpless 🙁
the practice dat i took 2 weeks ago i got a Science: 20 PAT:24 RC: 24 QR: 15... so annoying
